JOÃO PEDRO PARO

Born and raised in Brazil, JP grew up with a blend of Brazilian culture and Italian heritage from his mother’s side of the family. This unique mix of influences has shaped him into someone who embraces the best of both worlds—vibrant Brazilian energy combined with a European awareness.

JP’s motivation and disciplined mindset were honed during his teenage years as a soccer player in Brazil, where the drive to succeed became a key part of his character. But it wasn’t just sports that captured his interest. Alongside his law studies, JP also pursued a degree in social sciences, exploring subjects like sociology, literature, philosophy, political science, and anthropology and a Master degree in Law at the University of São Paulo. This intellectual curiosity helped him see the world from multiple perspectives and laid the foundation for his future career.

After earning two bachelor’s and a master degrees, JP and his wife made the bold decision to move to Europe, where he continued his studies at prestigious institutions like the International Anti-Corruption Academy, the Academy of European Law, and Coimbra University and currently PhD at the University of Lisbon. These experiences broadened his expertise in compliance and legal frameworks, preparing him to navigate complex international landscapes. Over the past seven years, JP has lived and worked in various European countries, including Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Spain. These experiences have not only enriched his professional life but also allowed him to immerse himself in different cultures, broadening his worldview. Now, with his family, JP has settled in Barcelona, where he works as Global Director of Governance, Risk, and Compliance at Oyster HR.

Lastly, most people call him JP—especially outside of Brazil—because “João” tends to be a bit tricky to pronounce for non-Portuguese speakers. So feel free to call him JP, as he’s embraced this simple yet meaningful abbreviation.
